'Didi panicking due to BJP's headstart'

The Bengal Opposition tends to give varied explanation for the sudden spurt in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s attacks on the BJP. While the the saffron outfit calls it a “panic outburst” apprehending steep rise in BJP’s vote base, the others like the left and the Congress term her anti-lotus tirades as false shots played at the Muslim gallery.

While BJP State president Rahul Sinha says, “The more she attacks us the more confident we will get that we are in right direction,” adding the Chief Minister is afraid of the losing ground to the BJP in near future.“You wait and watch what happens in another one months’ time. These elections have big surprises in store for the BJP. Things will be clear when the results come out,” Samik Bhattacharya, another senior BJP leader says, adding BJP’s sudden rise has panicked the Chief Minister leading her to attack the BJP in an unprecedented manner.

Banerjee has attacked the left and the BJP alike in the recent rallies she addressed in Birbhum district often alleging an “underhand deal between the Congress, BJP and the left to oust the Trinamool Congress which is a truly secular party.”A senior saffron leader from the district tends to dwell upon a fundamental reason to explain the abrupt rise in her attacks on BJP.

“As the support base of the Trinamool Congress and the BJP overlap the Chief Minister is getting scared that rise in BJP’s vote share will see proportionate fall in the vote base of its Opposition — particularly the Trinamool’s.”

The pre-poll surveys have shown a whopping 8 per cent rise in BJP’s vote share in the past one year in Bengal. The BJP enjoyed 14-plus votes in the State till about a month ago and the party’s popularity graph is rising along with that with its Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

On the other hand the Congress and the left feel Banerjee’s recent tirades against the saffron outfit are a product of electoral compulsion. “She is more comfortable with the BJP and has not only graced the NDA family for 8 years but also sent bouquet to Narendra Modi after he was re-elected the Chief Minister of Gujarat,” says CPI(M) State secretary Biman Bose adding her anti-BJP tirade can be explained in terms of her eagerness to hold back the dwindling minority vote bank.

"She is playing false shots aimed at the minority gallery" says PCC president and junior Railway Minister Adhir Chowdhury. But the "Muslims have understood that she is taking them for a ride and have started gradually alienating from her. And the more they go away from her the more she will bash the BJP to bring them back to her side" he says adding "the Trinamool will finally go back to the NDA if need be after the polls.
