After having bargained tall promises from her ‘business trips’ to Singapore, England and Germany, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has turned her eyes on China where she is likely to visit this June. Banerjee has received invitation from Chinese Government as well as the Chinese Communist Party in this regard.
“They (Chinese Govern-
ment) have invited me on many occasion to visit that country,” she said upon her arrival from Delhi.
“This time our party has got an invitation from the Chinese Communist Party. China has expressed interest
in investing in Bengal,”
she added saying “We may visit the country for a few days in June.”
“Though things have not yet been finalised, we are talking to them regarding investment in agro sector and manufacturing sector,” she said adding the Chinese had
shown interest in investing in Bengal. “That is why I want to visit that country as economy of my State is foremost on my agenda.”
Banerjee’s proposed visit to China assumes importance at a time when the mutual chemistry between countries is not at its best, observers said adding the Chief Minister’s visit will be watched closely at diplomatic levels.
Banerjee had earlier visited Singapore, England and Germany from where she bargained tall promises and
even received business delegations though no worthwhile investment flowed in leading to criticisms.
