Trinamool Congress has not only ruled out any support to the BJP at the Centre but its supremo Mamata Banerjee on Friday conituned her vitriolic attack against its prime ministrial candidate Narendra Modi saying had she been in Delhi she would have thrown the saffron leader in jail.
While Trinamool MP Darek O’Brien said the doors of his party to the BJP had been shut with “its keys thrown away”, Banerjee told an electoral rally at Behrampore that she would have thrown Modi behind the bar had she been in the Central Government.
“If I were in the Central Government I would have thrown Narendra Modi in jail by tying rope around his waist,” Banerjee said attacking the saffron leader for raising the infiltration issue during his election rallies in Bengal.
Banerjee asked the minority audience “haven’t you heard that Modibabu will drive you out of this country if he comes to power” adding, however she would go to any extent to save the minority population in the State.
Modi had earlier distinguished between the infiltrators and the refugees telling those who had been driven out of Bangladesh were welcome but those who were infiltrating this country and taking away the jobs of the locals would be driven out of this country.
The Chief Minister who had raised similar issues in 2005 however have been opposing Modi now.
On the question of supporting Modi the Trinamool Congress leadership said there was no question of being with the BJP. O’Brien said “leaders like Jayalalitha, Navin Pathnaik and Mamata Banerjee would be in the drivers’ seat after May 16.
