Referring to the BJP-Trinamool face-off in Parliament, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday blamed the saffron MPs for “abusing and misbehaving with our women MPs” adding she was “deeply shocked and anguished at the dirty act done in the highest temple of democracy.”
Referring to the “information I collected from my MPs”, Mamata said “fighting for their States’ cause and shouting slogans is very much within the rights of MPs, but it is unfortunate if they are manhandled and misbehaved against.”
The Trinamool had a set of new and young MPs in Parliament who were “just learning the process. What will they learn if someone comes drunk and some abuse others in filthiest of languages,” Banerjee said even as a number of the State’s Opposition politicians dismissed the Trinamool Congress’ allegations as “nothing but a tactic to shift focus from the Tapas Paul issue.”
Even left leaders would not take the TMC’s charges seriously saying “this is one way of pulling the BJP down to their own levels. We are dead against the BJP’s policies, but we also know the level to which the TMC can swoop to.”
