A low pressure area over the Tenasserim Coast and adjoining Andaman Sea has formed into a depression on Tuesday.
It would intensify into a deep depression within 24 hours and further intensify into a cyclonic storm, India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s Cyclone Warning Division Director Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said on Tuesday. Tracking the movement of the cyclonic circulation, Mohapatra said the depression would intensify and move in west-northwest ward direction. It would cross long Island of the Andaman by Wednesday forenoon, he informed.
He also stated that the system would change its movement from west-northwest ward direction to north-west ward touching north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts.
The local Met office sources said there would be rain or thundershower at one or two places over Odisha during next 24 hours. Met office’s bulletin clarified that there would be no immediate effect of the system on Odisha till the October 9. However, rainfall activity will gradually increase from the October 10 along coastal Odisha, it said.
“As the system is more than 1,300 km from the State coast, we have not issued any warning for fishermen. However, authorities of Paradip and Gopalpur ports are advised to hoist distant cautionary signal number one,” said IMD, Bhubaneswar, Director SC Sahoo.
