Demand for removal of cops, CBI probe gains momentum

The demand of immediate removal of the cops accused in the brutal killing of a woman in Barabanki, and transferring the probe into the hands of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) gained further momentum with the Congress threatening to take to streets if the State Government continues to shield the cops involved in one of the most heinous crimes.

“If cops involved in such gruesome killing that too of a woman inside a police station are not terminated and arrested then we will be forced to take to road to pressurise the Government for necessary action,” threatened chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Media Cell, Satyadeo Tripathi, while reacting to inaction of the Government to take stern action against the cops accused of killing the woman in Kothi police station at Barabanki.

Tripathi, who led a delegation to Barabanki to collect first hand information about the incident on Tuesday, also rejected the magisterial inquiry ordered by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. “It would be most insensitive on part of CM Akhilesh Yadav that instead of taking stern action and getting the accused cops arrested immediately and terminating them, he was trying to fool the entire public by claiming to have ordered magisterial enquiry into the incident,” Tripathi alleged while talking to mediapersons here on Wednesday.

“Akhilesh Yadav should know that magisterial enquiry is mandatory in all such incidents as the crime was committed inside the police station,” pointed Tripathi while advising the Chief Minister that instead of befooling the public in the name of ordering magisterial enquiry, he should have shown most sensitivity by placing all the cops posted at Kothi police station, who were present at the time of the incident, under suspension besides getting the accused cops arrested and removed from the department,” called Tripathi adding that the matter demanded a probe by the CBI in order to ensure free and fair enquiry.

Reminding action taken by Akhilesh Yadav in the rape and murder of two sisters in Badaun, Tripathi said that why the Chief Minister is hesitant to take action in the Barabanki incident. “In Badaun, Akhilesh was quick to terminate the services of the police constables but in Barabanki, when a woman in her dying declaration accused some policemen, the CM was not taking similar action and trying to save the culprits in the name of magisterial enquiry,” added Tripathi.
