National Capital’s first international football stadium is expected to be completed by the end of the year, said Delhi Development Authority (DDA) officials on Monday. The seating capacity of the stadium has been extended up to 30,000, which was earlier 18,000 only. “The international football stadium complies with all the specification of FIFA international stadia. The architectural design has been readied for implementation. We are facing an issue regarding traffic impact assessment (TIA). After resolving this issue, we hand over the sketches to the construction agency,” said D Sarkar, Commissioner of Sports, DDA.

TIA is considered a valuable tool for analysing traffic generated by proposed developments with new access or increased use of existing access. A well-prepared TIA helps the developer to accomplish the forecast the traffic impact created by proposed development based on accepted practices, not perceptions and determine improvements needed to accommodate the proposed developments.

The stadium is to come up in Dwarka Sector 19, which will occupy 62 acres of land having football stadium and practice stadium under the construction of phase I and would meet FIFA standards for play field with a length of 105 m and width of 68 m. FIFA standards will be met in the administrative blocks, indoor sports complex for athletes, spectator seating, services and circulation, and public facility. The total budget of this international football stadium is Rs 472 crore, according to DDA officials. The stadium is next to the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and can be approached from Sector 9 and 10 Metro stations and is opposite Bharat Vandana.
