The Left wing trade union Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) on Tuesday demanded that the Delhi Police must immediately retract their discriminatory statement and issue an apology to Bengali speaking migrant workers.
CITU general secretary Tapan Kumar Sen in a statement urged Central Government to initiate legal actions against the unconstitutional remarks of the Delhi Police and to halt its communal “pushback” policies and to respect the linguistic diversity of India, instead of abrogating it.
“All State Governments must ensure safety and better working conditions as per the interstate migrant workers Act along with dignity and uphold their constitutional rights, including protection from forced evictions and adequate housing.
“Migration is a global phenomenon, and India is no exception. It is a direct consequence of the uneven growth and development policies pursued by successive Governments, which have led to widespread distress and poverty in many regions.
“People migrate in search of a livelihood, a fundamental human right. To label these workers, who contribute immensely to the economy of the states they migrate to, as “infiltrators” enmasse is not only a lie but a cruel injustice,” said CITU.
CITU said that it stands in full solidarity with all migrant workers, regardless of their language, religion, or place of origin.
We call upon all sections of the working class to see through the BJP’s cynical game and unite against these attempts to sow discord. The real enemy of the working people is not their fellow worker, but the exploitative capitalist system and the political forces that seek to divide us, said the Left wing trade union.
“The working class must not fall in this trap. Our strength lies in our unity. Let us stand together and resist this assault on our collective class identity and rights. CITU calls upon all its affiliates, central and state, to organise immediate protest against such nefarious assault on migrant workers rights on communal-divisive pretexts,” said CITU.
