As a measure to tackle Red menace, the Defence Ministry could soon start recruiting jawans from the Naxalite-hit areas of the country. This recruitment exercise is aimed at wean away the local tribal youth from the clutches of the Maoists.
Minister of State for Defence Jitendra Singh said there was no point setting up recruitment camps in bigger towns insisting that the “Ministry would carry out special recruitment camps in the remotest areas for the youth. We have to see that these camps are held in the interior most areas too.”
Singh who said that the forces would not play any role in handling the Maoist problem as there were already “specialised units of the CRPF to tackle the it” reminded that “Naxalite management needs a multi-faceted approach” in which job creation and poverty eradication should go in tandem with other means of tackling the issue.
He apparently avoided answers that would be directly related to the development of Bengal’s Maoist-hit zones in view of the “Electoral Code of Conduct” ahead of the State panchayat elections.
