Defence College was on Qaeda's radar : Headley

In a couple of more sensational revelations made on the fourth day of his deposition, incarcerated leT operative David Headley said on Friday that Al Qaeda had asked him to carry out reconnaissance of New Delhi-based National Defence College (NDC), while Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) had told him to look for and recruit employees at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai as moles to provide classified information.

Fifty-five-year-old Headley, who has been singing like canary ever since he began deposing before a special court in the 26/11 attacks case on Monday, also disclosed that Al Qaeda, for which he had spied for the 26/11 attacks, had considered NDC as  its “prime target” — at one go — wanted to kill more number of Brigadiers and Generals than one could in any war.

Headley, who was deposing before the special court of Additional Sessions Judge G A Sanap through video-conferencing from the United States in the trial of key conspirator of 26/11 attacks case Zaibuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal, said that he had befriended one Rajaram Rege inside the Sena Bhavan that he believed that the leT either wanted to attack the Shiv Sena headquarters or “assassinate” the party chief (Bal Thackeray).

The 26/11 conspirator-turned-approver also revealed that he had advised the leT to drop the Siddhivinayak temple at Prabhadevi in north-central Mumbai and Naval Air Station at Colaba in south Mumbai from the list of its selected terror targets in Mumbai on the ground that the places were heavily guarded.
