leader of Opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly Vijayakant suffered a major embarrassment on Wednesday when a local court in Tirunelveli issued a non-bailable warrant against him in connection with a defamation case filed by the Jayalalithaa Government.
One of the Government advocates had filed a case in Tirunelveli court accusing Vijayakant of making defamatory remarks against CM Jayalalithaa during a public meeting on August last year.
The court had directed Vijayakant to appear before it on Wednesday. Following his failure to appear before the court on Wednesday, the judge issued the warrant asking police to arrest Vijayakant and produce him in the court on or before June 5.
The DMDK in a statement said the actor-turned-politician would appear before the court on Thursday itself.
