Deendayal Upadhyaya Electrification Project funds misused: BJP

Alleging misappropriation of funds under Deendayal Upadhyaya Electrification Project, State BJP president Keshav Prasad Maurya said that the SP Government has misled the Centre on electrification in Nagla Fatela Village (Hathras) and Chief Minister should act against erring officials.

“If the said village was electrified and it had polls and wires, why are the locals not getting power for the last 25 years. The State Government should clarify whether the village is electrified or not,” Maurya said while speaking to reporters in lucknow on Friday.

He said that the wrong report points towards misappropriation of funds under Deendayal Upadhaya Electrification Scheme. “Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav should fix it and act against the guilty officials,” he said.

With an aim to electrify villages, the then Government had launched the electrification project in 2004. Those villages were considered electrified where 10 per cent houses had power. “So far, the NDA Government has given Rs 14,011 crore under this project. Since UP is the biggest State, its share is the highest. But it seems that the Sate Government has not utilised the money,” he said.

The BJP leader also said that the Centre is ready to give power to UP at the rate of Rs 2 per unit, but it is purchasing the same at Rs 4 per unit and the CM should come clean on why is power being purchased at higher prices.

Maurya said it seemed that there was tacit understanding between the SP and the BSP and therefore the Akhilesh Yadav Government did not arrest Nasimuddin Siddiqui. “When the BJP comes to power, it will arrest Siddiqui,” he promised.
