Decision on AP on Friday

A decision on the next course of action in Andhra Pradesh was likely to be taken on Friday when the Union Cabinet will meet to take stock of the situation. The Cabinet will discuss the report of the State Governor on the situation arising out of the resignation of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.

The Centre has only two options — either find a replacement for Kiran and install a new Government or impose President’s Rule till the fresh elections. While the Governor has asked Kiran to continue as a caretaker Chief Minister till alternate arrangements were made, he has expressed his inability saying almost a week had passed to his resignation. Reddy was insisting to be relieved at the earliest to force the Congress high command to impose President’s Rule while many other Seemandhra Congress leaders were keen to take his place.

They include State Congress president Botsa Satyanaryana, and former Minister Kanna lakshminarayana and film star turned Union Minister of State Chiranjeevi. If the formation of Telangana takes more time, the new CM will be for the entire State of Andhra Pradesh as the coming elections will be held in the entire State.

Telangana Rashtra Samiti was insisting that the Center should announce Telangana State  Formation Day immediately and the elections should be held only in the new state. The fact that the Election Commission of India was likely to announce the election schedule on September 6 or 7 will only further complicate the process as the new government will not be able to take any major decisions and will be confined torun the day to day administration.
