In a tragic incident, a debt-trapped man committed suicide, after strangling his wife and two children to death at Katraj, an area located on the outskirts of Pune, in the early hours of Sunday.
The bodies of Deepak Sahakari Hande (42), Swati (35), their daughters Tejas (16) and Vaishnavi (12) were found in their residence in Telco Colony at Katraj’s Dattanagar locality.
The incident came to light, when a neighbour — Shrikant Koyale — knocked Handes’ door on Sunday morning. With no response from inside despite persistent his knocking, Koyale broke open the window of the house and entered inside. He found four bodies there. Before long, he called the police and informed the police.
In the suicide note that the police recovered from Handes’ residence, Deepak has stated that he was ending his life, after strangling his wife and two children to death. He has said he had nothing to complain against any one
Hande used to work in Sant Tukaram Co-operative Sugar factory, while his wife Swati used to work in a local beauty parlour. While their first daughter Tejas was a student of Hujurpaga Secondary and Higher Secondary School at Katraj, Vainavi was studying in Podar International School.
The preliminary investigations have revealed that Hande had taken the extreme step as he had been under tremendous mental strain over the debts he had piled up during the recent years. He was finding it difficult either to repay or fend off the people who had lent him money.
