Former Delhi BJP President and MLA Vijender Gupta expressed his deepest condolences over the tragic deaths of three students preparing for the UPSC exams, caused by the flooding of RAU's coaching centre basement in Old Rajender Nagar.
Gupta described the loss of these young lives as profoundly painful and heart-wrenching. He stated that the tragedy was not a natural calamity but a result of gross negligence by the AAP Government, both in the MCD and the state. According to Gupta, this incident underscores the absence of effective leadership and governance in Delhi. He pointed out that the coaching centre was permitted to violate building by-laws by using the basement as a library, with approvals granted just a month earlier by the AAP-led MCD.
Despite repeated complaints from residents, the drains were not cleared before the monsoon season. A local UPSC aspirant had previously lodged a complaint about MCD officials colluding with building owners to grant illegal permissions, but the government ignored this warning.
Gupta also recalled a recent incident where a UPSC student's body was found soaked in water, having died from electrocution due to flooding in the same area. He argued that this should have served as a warning to the authorities, but no corrective measures were taken. He highlighted the dangerous conditions in which thousands of students from across the country are forced to study.
Gupta accused the AAP leadership of shirking responsibility and engaging in a blame game instead of showing remorse. Nobody from the government has come to meet the students agitating. He criticized the lack of accountability, noting that no action has been taken against MCD officials, the minister in charge, or the local MLA, describing the situation as a case of daylight murder.
