With the killing of another militant in north Kashmir’s Handwara area on Friday, the death toll in three separate encounters in the north Kashmir region reached seven in two days. A Defence spokesman said that one unidentified militant was killed in an encounter in Wadarbala forest area of Handwara sector on Friday afternoon.

The spurt in violent activities in the north Kashmir region indicates that militants have successfully infiltrated during the past few weeks from across the line of Control (loC).

Three militants were shot dead by a joint team of Rashtriya Rifles and State Police in lolab area on Thursday morning. Almost simultaneously, another encounter had broken out in Dragmulla forests of the same district. The spokesman confirmed late in the evening that three more militants were killed in the encounter.

The areas are still under cordon and security forces have launched combing operations to track down more ultras in the area.

last week, a militant believed to be Pakistani national was apprehended in Sogam area of lolab when he was purchasing eatables in the local market.

The slain militants have not been identified but the officials believe that they are foreign nationals.

The militants suffered heavy casualties during the past one month in Kashmir. Earlier, eight militants and two soldiers died in separate encounters in Kupwara and Baramulla districts of Valley.
