In the tragic accident of Adani Power limited’s (APl) Mundra power plant situated in Kutch district, the death toll mounted to seven as over the past three days three more workers succumbed to injury.

According to police as many as 12 injured workers were brought to Ahmedabad for treatment and of these eight were critical and kept in Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The police confirmed that of the eight critically injured seven died. Four workers are out of danger, said the police and they are under further treatment.

On April 20 as many as 21 workmen at APl’s 4,600 MW thermal power plant, were injured in the accident. Eight of them with “nominal injuries” were provided first-aid at Mundra itself while 13 others having burns of upto 90 per cent were shifted to Ahmedabad for treatment at a private hospital. One of them was pronounced “brought dead”.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, the Kutch District Collector M S Patel visited the site in Mundra, where these workmen had sustained burn injuries. The workers allegedly got injured seriously due to hot steam when hot water got splashed from the vent of a flash tank during start-up of the APl’s unit after a two-day shut-down.

“During the start-up, some steam is normally allowed to vent,” the company had said in its statement immediately after the incident, adding that the unit was shut down after the accident. The Sub-divisional magistrate and police have been asked to prepare a report on the incident and submit the same to the Government.

According to Kutch police they have registered a case of accidental death and initiated investigation. The police also said that an inquiry is also being done by State boiler inspector and inspector of Industrial Safety and Health.
