IPS officer Sasikumar’s mysterious death in Paderu, Visakhapatanam on Thursday is turning out to be a case of suicide, police officials probing the incidents said.
In the suicide note found near his body at his residence in Paderu, the Assistant Superintendent of Police said he was under tremendous pressure in the course of discharging his duties for the past three months. However he made it clear that nobody was responsible for his death. “No other officer or any other person is responsible for my death”, he said in the note, which was made public by the police with the consent of Sasikumar’s family.
Suicide note has come to the fore in the backdrop of speculations that the IPS officer of 2012 batch was facing harassment from the senior and was in depression.
Sasikumar was found dead at his residence on Thursday morning after a gunshot was heard from his room. The bullet had hit him in the head and he died while shifting to a hospital.
Visakhapatanam district superintendent of police Rahul Dev said that the probe in to the case was handed over to the CID. On Friday a team of CID officials searched his room for clues on what might have caused him to take this extreme step.
After the postmortem and embalming at the King George Hospital, Visakhapatanam, his body was sent to his home town Salem in Tamil Nadu.
Doctors who performed the autopsy concluded that it was a case of suicide as the bullet from his service revolver had hit him on the right temple and exited from the left.
Soon after hearing the tragic news of his death, Sasikumar’s parents Kuppu Swamy and Mayilammal, sister Kavita and her husband Padmanabhan had rushed to Visakhapatanam from Bengaluru. Mother fainted on seeing the dead body of Sasikumar and had to be admitted to hospital.
What made the tragedy more poignant was the fact that Sasikumar was scheduled to get married next month and his parents were in Bengaluru on Thursday distributing his wedding invitation cards. He had recently visited his home town for engagement.
Four IPS officers and two IAS officers of Sasikumar’s batch also rushed to Visakhapatanam on hearing about the incident.
