Danve re-elected as BJP chief of Maharashtra

In an anticipated development, former Union minister Raosaheb Patil-Danve was on Monday re-elected as the president of Maharashtra BJP unit.

Danve’s re-election as the State BJP chief was announced after a meeting of senior party leaders held at the party headquarters in south Mumbai. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and party’s central observers were present at the meeting.

Sixty-year-old Danve —who had succeeded Devendra Fadnavis as state unit chief after the latter became the Chief Minister in the wake of the party’s re-sounding victory in the October 2014 Maharashtra Assembly polls — will have a three year term.

A close associate of late BJP leaders Pramod Mahajan and Gopinath Munde, Danve was Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, when he came to be appointed as the State BJP President.

Danve, who began his political career as a Sabhapati of Bhokardan Panchayat Samiti, has held several party positions over the years.
