Business has nothing to do with religion. Dandia used in various Garba venues are being manufactured by the members of minority community, that too in Godhra.
The town houses nearly 300 Dandia manufactures and most of them are Muslims. The highly unorganised Dandia making cottage industry is supplying Dandia across the country and it is being utilised by Hindus.
The painted Dandias – specialty of Godhra town – are in great demand. Even a small manufacturer like Yusuf Jamal makes nearly 10,000 pairs of Dandia in a year. Many manufactures like Jamal are in the business since generations.
Interesting most of the Dandia makers are from Signal Falia, the area once became infamous after Godhra train carnage in 2002.
