Dalit youth killed in caste conflict in UP

Already on high alert due to the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, West UP was gripped with tension after a caste conflict claimed the life of a Dalit youth while several others were seriously injured in Meerut on Thursday.

The sensational incident once again exposed the negligence of local police, who forgot to take preventive measures after a flare-up on Wednesday evening which finally culminated in a fatality on Thursday morning.

A heavy police force was later deployed and three persons were detained for questioning.

As per reports, Dalit and Thakur youths came to a head at Uldepur village under Ganganagar police station over an old rivalry on Wednesday evening. The Thakurs assaulted three Dalits who were passing through their locality. The Dalit youths somehow escaped and shared their trauma with friends and family.

Despite being informed about the incident, the local police took no action. As a result, a group of Dalit youths raided Uldepur village on Thursday morning and attacked the Thakurs. However, within minutes, hundreds of Thakurs gathered there and they brutally assaulted the Dalits resulting in the death of a youth and injuries to several others.

After the death of the youth of their community, the agitated Dalit youths placed the body on the road and staged a protest, demanding adequate compensation and arrest of the accused Thakur youths.
