Cyber criminals a step ahead of law enforcing agencies: Thakur

Not ruling out the possibility of the Paris terror attacks being planned and coordinated over the cyber world, Chief Justice of India (CJI) designate Justice TS Thakur on Thursday said that cyber criminals were a “step ahead” of law enforcement agencies that made tracking such crimes a major challenge.

Justice Thakur also underlined the need to create an agency to formulate laws on this subject that can make recommendations to the judiciary in this regard. Speaking at the sidelines of a Conference on Cybercrimes, Cyberlaws and Cyber Security here, Justice Thakur said, “Criminals are a step ahead with the spread of computer and internet. Cyber crime has emerged as a major challenge for law enforcement agencies.”

Condemning the recent terror attacks on Paris, he said, “Entire humanity has to condemn this kind of an attack (in Paris) on innocents. We hope the world unites against this kind of terrorism.”

Pavan Duggal, advocate and organizer of the conference, said cyber security was a collective responsibility of the State and individuals but Parliament has to act tough and enact laws.
