Curbs in Rajouri after protests, Army called in

The civil administration in frontier Rajouri district of Jammu province on late Tuesday evening imposed curfew restrictions and called in Army to conduct flag march to restore order after law and order situation went out of control during sporadic incidents of stone-pelting and provocative slogan shouting.

Tension was prevailing in the area following shutdown call sponsored by the religious bodies of the majority community.  They were demanding arrest of those who they claimed had burnt down flags with religious slogans on the occasion of Eid.

According to official sources, a group of people had burnt down ISIS flags  in Rajouri after protests were reported in Srinagar after the Eid prayers. However, the situation took an ugly turn in the afternoon after stone-pelting was reported on a group of people returning after attending the meeting organised by the district administration to defuse the tension in the area.

Police and forces were also targeted by the stone-pelters who had blocked several entry points in the middle of congested roads by burning tyres. Several parked cars belonging to members of the minority community were also targeted by the stone-pelters as security forces struggled to contain the law and order situation.

Following sporadic incidents of stone-pelting and provocative slogan shouting, the district authorities imposed curfew restrictions and also requisitioned Army columns to carry out flag marches. Deputy CM Nirmal Singh told reporters in Jammu, the State Government would  firmly deal with anti-national forces. He said ISIS is a militant organisation and if their flags have been burnt down there is no question of taking police action against them.
