Hyderabad police have booked cases of culpable homicide and mental suffering against the parents of the 13-year-old girl who died following 68 days long fast in the city. Police Inspector M Mattaiah said that the case was booked under Sections 394 of IPC and Section 75 of Juvenile Justice Act. “The case was booked at the Mondha Market police station on the complaint of Child Rights Association”, he added. “This is an allegation and we are investigating to establish the facts”, he said. The girl Aradhana, belonging to the Jain community had died on October 3, two days after breaking her 68 days long fast sparking a public outcry. The president of the Child Rights Association Anuradha Raohad lodged the complaint with the Police demanding action against the parents for forcing the girl to go on fasting and causing her death due to the neglect. Girl’s father lakshmi Chand said that the girl was on liquid diet for the two days after breaking her religious fast. “But after her condition deteriorated we shifted her to a local hospital where she was declared dead”. He rejected the allegations that they had forced the girl to observe fast. “She wanted to become a Jain nun and had gone on fast twice in the past but she never faced any problem”, he said.
