With an aim to make its negligent officials accountable, the CPWD has decided to pay compensation of Rs200 per day for any delay in attending the maintenance complaints lodged by the occupants of the CPWD quarters.
There are over 80,000 CPWD quarters across the country with as many as 60,000 in the national Capital itself. These quarters are occupied by the Central employees from Group-I to Group-IV.
Initially, the compensation will be paid from the CPWD contingency fund and the amount will be later deducted from the salary of the official responsible for delaying or keeping the work pending.
In January, 2015, the Ministry had approved a maintenance charter that defines the time period by which different type of complaints should be attended to. For instance, as per the maintenance chart, complaints related to drainage work has to be met within six hours.
“To take this reform agenda forward, now it has been decided that CPWD will pay to the occupant compensation @ Rs200 per day for delay in attending the maintenance complaints within the time frame prescribed in the maintenance charter,” the official added.c
