CPM slams Modi for 'U-turns' on land Bill

The CPI(M) on Tuesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of his U-turns on the land Bill and urged him to explain the nation for the change of decision and “wasting the time of Parliament” for almost a year. “If you are going back to the old land Bill by dropping the amendments then why did you bring three OrdinancesIJ Why did you waste time of ParliamentIJ” CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury told reporters here.
“The BJP opposed our amendments proposals earlier. Then the Government brought three Ordinances. Now they are bringing the same old Bill. Is it not a mockery of parliamentary democracy and an attempt to negate the very foundation democracyIJ” he asked.Referring to the stalemate in Parliament, Yechury said the Government was not coming out with any proposals to break the logjam. He also blamed lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan for the “indiscriminate and choosy actions” in running the Parliament in collusion with Government.
Yechury also criticised media for “planting news” on the breaks in Opposition unity. “The Opposition is united on the resignation demand. Our stand is very clear. Only media is planting wrong reports that Opposition unity is broken or breaking,” he said.
