The CPI(M) is ready to cooperate with the Indian National Congress to defeat Narendra Modi and the RSS, declared Sitaram Yechury, the general secretary of the party. While inaugurating the delegates’ session of the 23rd Party Congress which began at Kannur on Wednesday morning, Yechury wanted the Congress to mend its ways with regard to Hindutva. “Most of the time it looks like the Congress is resorting to a soft-Hindutva line to counter the communal policies of the BJP and the RSS. Our aim is to forge an alliance of the secular, liberal, democratic forces in the country to take on the BJP and the RSS,” declared Yechury.
The CPI(M) general secretary said that India under Narendra Modi regime has failed in all spheres of civilisation. “There is no democracy or secularism in India now. Modi has become a dictator and does not allow any opinion other than that of him to be heard by the country. All democratic institutions have been destroyed by Narendra Modi. There is only one option to save India and that is to defeat Narendra Modi and the RSS,” said Yechury.
He blamed the Narendra Modi government for India’s failure to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic. “Kerala under Pinarayi Vijayan has done an excellent job in preventing the Covid-19 pandemic and this is the success of the socialist system of governance. The Kerala model has been appreciated across the worls. Narendra Modi and the BJP failed miserably in controlling the prices of essential commodities, especially that of petroleum products,” said the general secretary who is likely to get an extension of three more years as the party’s top boss.
Enthused by the words of Yechury, the party’s chief ideologist M A Baby declared that the CPI(M) was willing to join hands with any “devils” to defeat the communal BJP and the RSS. “It has been proved beyond doubt that only the Left, democratic and secular forces could save the world from Fascist and communal elements,” said Baby.
Yechury said the triennial party congress is being held at the most critical juncture since the formation of the CPI(M). "The BJP government at the Centre is trying to saffronise history text books. The country has not seen communalism of this kind at any point of time,” he said. Yechury blamed the United States of America for the Russia-Ukraine war and wanted the Government of India to disband the Quad which he described as an alliance against peace loving China.
Earlier in the day, senior Polit Bureau member S Ramachandran Pillai hoisted the party flag announcing the beginning of the five day party congress. Pillai turned emotional while addressing the delegates as it was time for his superannuation from the party leadership. Alappuzha born Pillai turned 84 this February and according to the new guidelines he is not eligible to be a member of the polit bureau or central committee. Though he had hoped that the party would nominate him either as party general secretary or as the chief minister of Kerala, the hopes turned sour in 2016. Despite being ignored for any important positions, Pillai exhorted the cadre not to be complacent against the BJP and RSS and asked them to work for the introduction of classical socialism.
