The CPI(M) politburo on Tuesday demanded the interrogation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by the CBI in the Saradha scam. Maintaining that the ongoing probe was lacking co-ordination between the Central agencies, the left party said all evidences expose the role of Mamata and it was a must that the agencies interrogate her to find out the main culprits.
“The politburo noted that the involvement of the Trinamool Congress leadership and Ministers in the Saradha chit fund scandal has been emerging in the course of the investigations being conducted by the CBI. The politburo condemned the efforts of the Chief Minister and the Trinamool Congress Ministry to scuttle the investigation.
“ It is essential that the CBI make a full and comprehensive investigation. There should be coordination between the various investigation agencies under the Central Government like the SEBI, SFIO, CBI and ED. All the evidence points to the involvement of the highest level in the State Government in West Bengal which should lead to the interrogation of the Chief Minister herself by the CBI,” said CPI(M) in a statement.
On Monday, a delegation of all left parties from West Bengal had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded a coordinated investigation by various Central probe agencies into the Saradha chit fund scam and other such ponzi schemes.
left leaders said they had pointed out to Modi that there was a lack of co-ordination from the part of probes of various agencies like CBI, SEBI, Enforcement Directorate and SFIO, even after the directions from the Supreme Court.
“The Supreme Court itself observed that there is a larger conspiracy and this extends beyond West Bengal, Tripura, Odisha, Assam and various parts of the eastern India and in the country. So we have requested the Prime Minister that since many of these agencies come under the Central Government, there should be a coordinated investigation.... To reach the bottom of this scam,” said CPI(M) leader Yechury, while briefing media.
