CPI slams PM Modi over Vijaya Dashami remarks

The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Wednesday strongly deplored the remarks made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami, accusing him of using the festival address to take “cheap shots” at political opponents and promoting divisive politics.

In a sharp statement issued by its National Secretariat, the Left party asserted that the Prime Minister, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and its ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), do not represent an inclusive and

integrated nation.

“PM Modi couldn’t resist cheap shots at political opponents. He must understand that he, his party, and the RSS are not for the inclusive and integrated nation. They pursue the politics of polarisation and hatred. Enough of the obsession with inventing new ‘enemies’ of the nation,” the CPI National Secretariat stated.

Attacking the RSS directly, the party alleged that the organisation has done the most to divide the country. The CPI further accused the Centre of bringing international embarrassment to India through high-handedness against citizens, citing instances where peaceful protesters, journalists, women, and young girls were allegedly subjected to physical assaults and harassment.

Calling on the Prime Minister to shift focus to pressing governance issues, the Left party urged the Government to address critical challenges rather than targeting political adversaries. “Instead of adding to the list of ‘national enemies’, answer for the economic shambles, threats to national sovereignty, and assault on electoral integrity and the Constitution,” the statement added.
