CPI(M) urges Govt to withdraw EIA notification

The CPI(M) on Friday urged the Government to withdraw the notifications regarding the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) 2020, alleging that the draft in this regard has several provisions to support business houses and circumvent judicial findings. In a detailed letter to Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar, CPI(M) polit bureau member Brinda Karat said that the provisions in the EIA draft suggests to overcome the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) orders and even go to the extent of circumventing the orders of the Supreme Court. “Most objectionable is the fact that in the entire document the concerns of adivasis who are going to be the most affected community due to the dilution of environment regulations do not form any part of the notification,” she said.
