M V Govindan, secretary, Kerala CPI(M), warned the media in the State against writing anything against the party and its tributary organizations like Students Federation of India.
The warning comes at a time when a section of the media has exposed the role of SFI leaders in making counterfeit degree and post graduate certificates to get employment as lecturers in the universities of the State.
“The media in the State should stick to its responsibility of reporting. It should not play the role of advocate and judge and keep away from holding media trials.
There is a widespread belief that the Opposition parties including the media are conspiring against SFI because of its unprecedented growth in the State,” said Govindan while speaking to reporters at Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. M Arsho, secretary, SFI and Vidya, who claims to be a post graduate in literature, allegedly furnished fake educational certificates with the intention to secure jobs assistant professor despite the fact that they did not possess the mandatory qualifications.
A woman journalist working with a Malayalam TV channel who brought this incident out has been slapped with criminal charges by the Kerala Police.
But the CPI(M) leaders like former minister P K Sreemathy expressed shock over the intensity of the crime and blamed Vidya for bringing disrepute to the party. Ramesh Chennithala, former Leader of the Opposition and other Congress leaders have described the charge sheeting of the journalist as the Black Day of Media in the State.
