Covid not over, don't drop your guard: Minister

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday warned that States and Union Territories ‘shouldn’t think that Covid-19 is over’ and should ask people not to  lower their guard.

Mandaviya virtually met Health Ministers of all States and Union Territories to review the campaign of ‘Har Ghar Dastak’ to ensure vaccination of all adults who have not got their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine or are overdue for their second dose.

During the meeting, Mandaviya said that in the national interest, all States and UTs must work together in a collaborative spirit towards ‘Har Ghar Dastak’ Covid-19 vaccination drive so that no household is left unvaccinated in the country, said the statement.

The meeting of the Health Ministers comes a week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 3 interacted with district magistrates and health officials of over 45 districts across 12 States and Union Territories where the first dose coverage of Covid-19 vaccine was less than 50 per cent.

As per the official figures, around 79.2 per cent of India’s adult population has been inoculated with at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, while more than 37 per cent of around 94 crore adult population has been administered both doses.

Uttar Pradesh tops the list of States which have administered the highest number of Covid vaccine doses. Maharashtra is at second spot followed by West Bengal, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
