The Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Friday reserved its orders for December 26 on the issue of summoning documents in the National Herald case. After hearing the heated arguments between the battery of lawyers of the Congress and petitioner Subramanian Swamy for more than 90 minutes on the need for the documents from Government departments and Congress's accounts in the politically sensitive case, Magistrate lovleen reserved the orders in this regard. The lawyers of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi argued that Swamy was trying on “fishing and roving” exercise and court should not allow his petition to summon documents from Income Tax, Registrar of Companies. Advocates RS Cheema, Ramesh Gupta and Rebecca John vehemently objected Swamy's arguments. Swamy sought mainly documents related to the controversial `90 crore transaction from Congress and Associated Journals. Earlier, the court allowed Swamy's petition and all Government departments submitted documents in sealed cover. Congress leaders challenged trial court's decision citing that they were not heard before passing the orders. Delhi HC observed that trial court made error by not hearing to arguments of accused leaders on this regard.
