The BJP launched a fierce attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday for trying to shrug off his Government’s responsibility for the present state of economic uncertainty and reiterated that national elections be advanced to end this.
“This country cannot afford a paralytic Government. People of this country do not want this Government anymore. It is better to end this uncertainty and go for fresh elections at the earliest. let us go the people. As such the Congress president is also confident of returning to power hundred per cent,” former BJP chief M Venkaiah Naidu said in Chennai. Holding the Manmohan Singh Government responsible for the crisis and ruining of the fundamentals of the economy, Naidu alleged that the UPA had thrown fiscal responsibility act out of the window for electoral benefits.
He took exception to PM’s barbs against the Opposition and said, “Mr Prime Minister, there is neither cohesion in your Cabinet, nor consensus in your party nor cooperation from your allies. And you expect the Opposition to extend the co-operation.” He rued that instead of combating issues like inflation and economic downturn, the PM chose to engage himself in a battle with the Opposition during his speech in the Rajya Sabha. Naidu quipped that instead of worrying about international groups like G-20, the PM should be worried about I-120 (Interest of 120 crore people of India).
