In a damaging statement, the chairman of the committee constituted by the State Human Rights Commission to probe the Presidency University attack case on Thursday complained non-cooperation on the part of the police.

He also said that the police and university versions contradicted each other and “if one party hides the truth then one must say that the statements made by the university officials and witnesses appeared to be true.”

The probe committee is headed by Professor Amal Mukherjee, the former Principal of Presidency College.

Mukherjee said that the javelin that was found in the campus allegedly used by the attackers reportedly belonging to the ruling Trinamool Congress had come from outside as the stock of javelin the University sports department was intact.

He also alleged that neither the local Jorasanko Police nor the Police Commissioner or even the Home Secretary cooperated with him regarding the probe. “I got no cooperation from Home Secretary, Police Commissioner or Jorasanko Police Station,” he said.
