The Mumbai Police on Tuesday took into custody an employee of a property website for allegedly taking photographs of the sensitive Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) at Anushakti Nagar in north-east Mumbai, using a remote-controlled drone.

Identifying the arrested person as one Shivkumar Sahane, an employee of a property website, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone -VI) Sangramsingh Nishandar said Sahane was among three persons who had allegedly been seen taking photographs of the BARC from a height of 55 ft using a remote controlled drone.

Acting on a complaint lodged with them by a professor who had videographed the incident using his mobile phone, the Trombay police arrested Sahane.

“The drone flew over BARC campus at Trombay for nearly 25 minutes,” Nishandar said, quoting a complaint lodged with the Trombay Police.

Sources said the Trombay Police were in the process of arresting two more persons, both colleagues of Sahane in the case.

During the questioning, the arrested person has told the police that he and two of his colleagues had taken photographs of the BARC complex using a remote-controlled drone for uploading on their property website.

The Trombay Police is likely to book the three employees of the property website firm for alleged breach of security.
