Cop plays Bajrangi Bhaijan to Bangladeshi woman

Bajrangi Bhaijan tended to descend in a real life story with a Kolkata police officer playing a perfect Salman Khan to help his “sister” Jahira a Bangladeshi woman to return to her country after she lost her purse containing visa, passport and related documents to thieves in Kolkata.

The incident took place on July 21 when Jahira a poor Bangladeshi national who had come to India for treatment was seeing her doctors at Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Busy talking to doctors thieves pinched her shoulder bag.

“It contained everything — from my visa, passport to all other documents. I was all at sea and nowhere to go in an alien country,” she said. Even as she cried a duty constable advised her to visit the lal Bazar police headquarters.

Once in lal Bazar she met designated Sub-inspector DR Tablong who promptly swung into action.

“I thought the best way to sort her problem out was to take her to Benapole entry point. Once at Benapole relevant numbers of her documents could be found after checking the immigration files. We then managed to buy her a ticket to Bangladesh,” Tablong said.

The nonchalant officer said “I did so as I considered it to be a my duty as a human being. After all she was also a human being and like

my sister.”

With her husband a manual labourer Jahira is a poor woman hailing from the other side of the border.

What his colleagues would subsequently reveal was Tablong did not hesitate to buy his “sister” a new cell phone so that she did not get lost and could be contacted if required.

“We are proud of Tablong for going out of the way to help a foreigner woman. In normal course he could have washed his hands by registering a case of theft and sending away the woman with a promise of thorough investigation or at the most he could have referred her to some NGO” a senior

officer said.
