Cadres of the anti-talk faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) led by IK Songbijit on Thursday ambushed a police party in Assam’s Kokrajhar district killing two persons including a civilian. The two killed were identified as Sub-Inspector Narayan Barman of the Rupshi Police out post and a civilian driver —Madan Rai, police said.

Kokrajhar SP Sunil Kumar said that the incident took place at Beloguri located on the borders of Kokrajhar and Dhubri districts. “The police party was coming from a camp of the pro-talk faction of the NDFB led by Ranjan Daimary after an inspection,” said the SP while adding that the militants, however, managed to escape. The police and security forces have already launched operation to track the militants, he said. The NDFB’s anti-talk faction had last week abducted a senior official of the National Hydroelectric Power Project from Bhalukpong area on Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, who had been still missing.

The NDFB faction have made the lives of common people miserable in some areas of the State particularly in the four districts of Bodoland Territorial Areas Districts-Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri and in some some areas along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh borders.

Alarmed by the reports of extortion and abductions, the Central Government had recently instructed the State Government to deal with the matter strictly.
