Gujarat’s senior IPS officer Vipul Vijoy, who is accused of having kept his subordinates in captivity at his official residence’s garage on Monday vacated his bungalow situated at the lush green Karai Police Academy on the outskirts of Gandhinagar and shifted to the Police Officer’s Mess.

Vijoy has been accused of keeping 17 policemen in illegal confinement. Even his wife allegedly behaved rudely with the junior cops. Following the complaint of these cops, the Gujarat Government has instituted a departmental inquiry against Vijoy. State Home Guards Chief HP Singh has started inquiry against Vipul Vijoy. According to junior police officials, they were locked in without water and food for almost 16 hours.

Interestingly, only after the intervention of the Gujarat DGP PC Thakur the locked policemen were freed from the garage. The State Home Minister has asked Vijoy to go on leave in wake of departmental inquiry. Vijoy, who hailed from a politically influential family of Bihar, is accused of having mentally tortured his sub-ordinate staff and made them do menial work in his household. In his defence, Vijoy blamed the 17 policemen of insubordination and dereliction of duty.
