Controversial Gujarat cop DG Vanzara leaves jail

Published on:

After walking out of the Sabarmati Central jail after almost eight years, former Gujarat Deputy Inspector General of Police DG Vanzara, one of the accused in Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Ishrat Jahan’s encounter case, said that the Gujarat Police was targeted for “extra political reasons”. Anti-terror operations happen in every State. But Gujarat Police was a victim of politics. It was unfairly targeted for political reasons.

“The entire world is fighting against the terrorism. Government and armed forces are taking action against them. I was just one of them,” said the 61-year-old retire IPS during the media interaction. Replying on a question whether the encounters were fake, Vanzara said that he wouldn’t like to give any comment on it but his legal stand related to the encounters were not fake. His action was genuine. Dressed in saffron jacket,  DG Vanzara stood in an open jeep and waved like the winning candidate in an election, many garlands around his neck and flower petals showered upon him by supporters as he left Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati jail on Wednesday afternoon.
