Hyderabad city police continuing its operation against the contract marriages of visiting Arab shaikhs with local minor girls on Tuesday arrested three more Omani national and two local qazis.

Deputy Commissioner of police V Satyanarayana told a Press conference that the arrests were made in the continuing investigations into last week’s arrest of eight Arab shaikhs from Oman and Qatar and 12 locals including qazis and brokers.

“We have arrested qazi Abdullah Al Rafai who was absconding for the last one week and his assistant Ibraheem,” he said.

Three Omanis arrested include Shaikh Al Shaheda Sulaiman Bin Qamees Bin Salem, Al Shahedi Qamees Mohammed Kalyan and Al Amoodi Hamdan Yasir.

“They had come here for contract marriage. We have arrested them and produced them before the judicial magistrate,” Satyanarayana said.

He said that the qazi Abdullah Al Rafai was involved in performing 10 such contract and temporary marriages by charging hefty amount of money. “The minority welfare department had already suspended him but he secured a stay order from High Court and was continuing his activities”.

In some cases the divorce document was also prepared along with the marriage documents. “Obviously they had decided that it will be a temporary marriage which was nothing but sexual exploitation of poor girl and cheating”, he said.

The racket of contract marriages was spread from Hyderabad to Karnataka and Kochi in Kerala.

“Mumbai Chief Qazi Fareed Ahmad Khan as performed hundreds of such marriages for money”, he added.

The nefarious activities of a handful of such people were bringing bad name to the city of Hyderabad. "A large number of Arab visitors come to Hyderabad for various purposes including medical treatment but a small number of people who come here to satisfy their lust are bringing shame to all of them", he said

He urged the parents of the girls who get trapped b brokers due to poverty or for the sake of some money to think what will be the fate of the minor girls after they get married to 70 and 80 year old Arabs.

"If these Shaikhs need they can marry senior women. Why they want to marry minor girls and destroy their lives", he wondered.

"Even the local religious and political leaders are concerned about it. The local MP (Asaduddin Owaisi) has also asked us to take stringent action against such elements. We will not spare anybody", he added.
