Consultation from MPs must for solar pumps: States told

Published on:

The Government has made it mandatory for the States to seek consultation from the Member of Parliaments (MPs) before taking decision to install solar-powered water pumps in the rural areas.

The move follows poor pace of the installations as well as frequent complaints from the elected representative cutting across the party lines that they were not being kept in loop by the State Governments during implementation of the solar energy based dual pump piped water schemes  in their constituencies.

The Ministry of Water and Sanitation with the assistance from Ministry of New and Renewable Energy have initiated the scheme for installation of 20,000 solar pumping systems in habitations with populations between 150 to 250 in the country.
