Connect with masses at booth level: Dhumal

Grappling with debacle after debacle in polls in Himachal Pradesh, the BJP on Wednesday used its trump card — campaign committee Chief Narendra Modi’s name and his idea to strengthen each and every polling booth of the State to rejuvenate the morale of its party workers.

leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal cited the example of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi of how he worked to strengthen each and every polling booth and connected with the masses.

“Yes, loss in election is always disappointing for any political party but it’s the rule of nature that after every loss, there comes a win but it will only happen, if party workers keep up their good work and enthusiasm,” said Dhumal while addressing party officebearers meet at Shimla party headquarters.

“We can learn a lot from our campaign committee chief Narendra Modi and adopt his mantra of strengthening each and every polling booth by connecting with the people and ensure NDA Government at centre in 2014 general elections,” said Dhumal amid applause from audience.

Dhumal recalled the efforts of Modi in 1995 when he was in-charge of party’s affair in Himachal Pradesh and how he worked along with each and every party worker to ensure party’s win in 1998 assembly election. “We have to take everyone along with us whether they are annoyed, disappointed or are our elders to the roads of victory,” said Dhumal.

State BJP had called a meeting of its office bearers to discuss strategies for 2014 general election and to assess the loss of party in the recently concluded Mandi-bye-election. State BJP chief Satpal Singh Satti said that there was gross misuse of official machinery and money power in the bye-election to ensure win for the Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh’s wife Pratibha Singh.

“Despite gross misuse of power, Congress could not enhance its vote bank in the Mandi parliamentary constituency,” said Satti asking the party workers to organise birthday of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on July 6 to highlight his ideology.
