Congress to take call on ties with left soon

The Congress party is likely to take a decision on its alliance policy in Bengal in a few days time, its leader Paresh Dhanani who earlier met with Bengal Pradesh Congress leaders as a representative of Rahul Gandhi said on Sunday.

A majority of State leaders are known to have voted for a left-Congress alliance, insiders said. “We are aware of the people’s mood in the State and the Congress has always stood by the people in the past and in future it will continue to do so,” Dhanani said after meeting the Bengal leaders.

“Trinamool Congress is running an autocratic Government, which must be thrown out of power” he maintained. “The ruling party will soon know what the people of the State want and our high command will soon take an appropriate decision through its committee on alliances led by senior leader AK Antony.”

Incidentally former Kerala Chief Minister and senior CPI(M) leader VS Achuthanandan had on Saturday backed his Bengal comrades in favour of an alliance with the Congress.

Seeking to draw a line between “policy and tactic” he said that the situation in Bengal was different from that of Kerala adding Mamata Banerjee was running a dictatorship worse than that of Hitler and hence deserved to be thrown out of power at any cost.

The Kerala leaders from both the Congress and the left had been opposed to any kind of alliance between the two sides in Bengal where the leaders from both the sides are vehemently in favour of an alliance.

Meanwhile, the left and Congress leaders from Bengal have decided to walk jointly in protest against the JNU arrests, PCC member OP Mishra. “The Congress and CPI(M) leaders will walk against from College Square to Dorina Crossing against the police excesses in JNU at the behest of the saffron brigade” Mishra said.

The leaders who are likely to take part in the walk are senior Congress leaders Abdul Mannan, Mishra, CPI(M) leaders Bikash Bhattacharya, Sujan Chakrabarty and others, he maintained.
