Congress dismisses talks of 'fielding' Kejri against NaMo

After AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal’s Bangalore declaration that he was ready to take on BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in Varanasi there was speculation that Kejriwal may be the common candidate against BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

But the Congress, on Tuesday, retorted and dismissed any such proposal to field Kejriwal as a candidate against Modi.

Talking to the media in Bangalore, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi dismissed any such idea and sarcastically called it ‘fertile and febrile imagination’ of the reporter. He said, “I must admire your power of imagination. It’s very fertile and febrile. But I’am sorry to disappoint you that whatever your reliable sources are for this information, I certainly cannot confirm it.”

“let me tell you that there is no reason for me to comment on the war of words between Modi and Kejriwal. The Congress is a 125-years-old party in India. We will make our choices and decisions in accordance with our philosophies for each area and each constituency. You will know that soon,” he said.

At a rally in Bangalore on Sunday, Kejriwal declared that he was ready to take on Modi from Varanasi but put a rider that it hinges on the response at a rally there on March 23. Hitting out at the BJP, Singhvi accused the party of playing “cheap politics” ahead of lok Sabha polls on the issue of 1962 India-China war when a classified report on it was made public, saying that it only shows the Opposition party’s mindset.

“I don’t think that such cheap allegations deserve a response. Everybody knows that what happened in 1962 was a product of diverse factors. Any suggestion to make it unilinear would “miniaturise” things which were very complex. If you play such tricks on the eve of elections, after 30 to 40 years, it shows the mindset of the BJP,” he added.

Singhvi also hit out at  Modi following a clarification by Wikileaks dismissing the claim that its founder, Julian Assange, had called Gujarat Chief Minister “incorruptible”.
