The Congress on Friday took potshots at the BJP after its senior leaders including lK Advani, Jaswant Singh and Uma Bharti reporting to have fallen sick and not attending the party’s national executive meeting in Goa where Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is expected to be given a larger role in the party. The Congress said “Namonitis” is spreading fast in the Opposition party.
“It is a strange virus known as Namonitis which is spreading. It is similar to pneumonia. I will advice Goa Chief Minister to contain it as it may affect tourism in Goa,” Congress spokesperson Renuka Chowdhury said when asked about absence of senior BJP leaders from the meeting.
Asked whether the growing role for Modi is a matter of concern for the Congress, Renuka retorted, “Why should we be concernedIJ It is the BJP, Shiv Sena and RSS which need to be concerned.”
Congress leader Rashid Avli said that due to Modi, senior leaders of the BJP are falling sick. “BJP should think what will happen to the country because of him. My full sympathies are to those who are falling sick due to Modi.”
Another spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed said that it indicated that Modi group has chased away Advani group within the BJP.
