Even as the last round of polling in UP and Manipur winds up on Wednesday, major political parties namely the Congress and the BJP in another poll-bound State, Goa, have already claimed respective victories in the February 4 poll.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, state presidents of the BJP, as well as the Congress party, who chaired meetings with their respective party candidates and election agents on Wednesday, said that their parties would win comfortable majorities where votes are eventually counted on March 11.
State BJP president Vinay Tendulkar however shied away from the issue of announcing the party’s chief ministerial probables. “That is for the elected party MlAs and our central leaders to decide,” Tendulkar said. The top official however said, that the BJP would win a minimum of 22-23 seats when the votes polled on February 4 are counted on March 11 (Saturday). “We are confident of winning more than 22 or 23 seats. This was our prediction immediately after the elections too,” Tendulkar said.
State Congress president luizinho Faleiro who also addressed a meeting of his party candidates earlier today, also said that the Congress would form the next government in Goa, already crediting the people of the coastal state and Congress workers for the presumed victory.
“We are expecting to win 23 to 25 seats. We should have the majority. I know that doubting Thomases who were saying that the Congress will not get more than 3 seats and even some of our senior leaders were saying it. The situation is no from minus to plus. And I give the credit first to the people of Goa,” Faleiro said.
The former Goa chief minister also said, that the party would be open to accepting support from other elected MlAs who were in sync with the Congress party.
“As I said before, if any other candidate believes in the Congress ideology, in its programme and manifesto, they’re free to support us,” Faleiro said.
