The Congress will support MK Kanimozhi, daughter of M Karunanidhi, in the biennial election to Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu scheduled for Thursday. This was announced by BS Gnanadesikan, president of the TNCC on late Tuesday.
With the Congress which has five members in Tamil Nadu Assembly decided to support Kanimozhi, uncertainty about her victory has blown over and she is all set to win the sixth seat in the election. There are seven candidates in fray for six seats. With sufficient numbers on their side, the AIADMK block has already ensured the victory of five candidates (four from AIADMK and lone CPI nominee).
The DMK with 23 members had mobilised four more votes from MMK (an Islamic fundamentalist group) and Puthiya Tamizhagam (a Dalit outfit).
