The Congress on Monday said it will go alone in Bihar and maintain equal distance from both lalu Prasad’s RJD and Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (U).
The assertion by the Congress on a day when lalu praised the party at his rally is likely to dash the hopes of the RJD chief to have an alliance with the Congress. Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmad said that lalu may be praising Congress as he is supporting the UPA at center but as far as Bihar is concerned Congress will go independent. It is contesting the Maharajganj lok Sabha by polls against the JD(U) and RJD.
Though Congress has constituted a Committee headed by Defence Minister AK Antony to decide about future alliances, Shakeel said, “We have not aligned with anyone. Till now the party is going all alone. The Congress is trying to find its own pathways.”
Party sources said that there were some reservations in the leadership about aligning with RJD as they feel that such alliance further decimate the party. Though the Congress may want to have an alliance with JD(U), the possibility of it is only in case Nitish decides to come out of NDA which is very remote.
So, Shakeel even pointed holes in Bihar’s development theory being projected by Nitish. The per capita income and agriculture growth was still low in the state and no investment has come to the state during Nitish regime, he said.
