Cong takes potshots at 1 year of Modi Sarkar

With the Modi Government all set to enlist the achievements of its first year in office, the Congress on Monday sharpened its attack and termed it as “one year of failures”. The party also said the one-year-old Government at Centre is not a ‘business friendly Government’ but a ‘friend of chosen businessmen’. To counter Modi’s one-year anniversary, the party is also preparing a strategy which is likely to be finalised by Rahul Gandhi after his return from Amethi.

Sources said that this time it may not be the BJP’s U-turns on several issues that the Congress will focus on. It will instead communicate through public platforms and media to tell about PM’s frequent foreign visits, collapse of parliamentary democracy in the form of Ordinances and the Modi Government’s failure to contain price rise.

AICC spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that the Modi Government has not been able to prove its mettle in employment generation, the status of River Ganga remains the same and the education sector has only worsened. On health, business, agriculture and other fronts too, the Congress leader criticised the Modi Government and said it make lots of false promises and mislead people.

“The Prime Minister said that he would get the work done (Ganga Cleaning) in just one year. Then Uma Bharti (Minister) said she would do it in three years, and finally, the Supreme Court, observing the pace of work, in September last year said that going by the speed of the work of cleaning the Ganga was on, it would take another 200 years to complete the work,” Singhvi said. “Export has gone down. It was announced that 250 million jobs would be created,” he said, asking: “How are you going to do it when only a very small number of jobs were managed in the past one year of your governanceIJ”

On the PM’s foreign tours, party’s chief spokesman Randeep Surjewala said there were 16 International forays of Modi in less than 12 months without any tangible returns for the country. “That’s why, the common man on the street recites a favourite slogan on Modi Government’s completion of one year- Pradhan Mantriji desh mein aatey kabhi-kabhar; aisi rahi Modi Sarkar,” Surjewala said. Surjewala said after one year of being in Government, the Prime Minister’s obsession to target Opposition and its leaders repeatedly on foreign soil is deplorable and unacceptable. He also reminded that the Modi Government had raised the prices of petrol and diesel twice within a fortnight.
